President of Russia Vladimir Putin sent a message to President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressing his deep condolences regarding the tragic incident during the military exercises by Kazakhstan’s Navy in the Caspian Sea.

“Please convey my sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the military personnel who lost their lives. Russia shares your pain and sorrow,” the President’s message reads.

On September 24, while Kazakhstan was holding its Caspian Defence 2026 – Khazar Korgany-2026 naval drills, 17 service members were swept out to sea and 14 of them died after a sudden deterioration in weather conditions.

Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud.

Vladimir Putin extended his greetings to the Crown Prince on the upcoming national holiday – Founding Day – noting that 100 years ago, the USSR was the first foreign state to recognise the Saudi Kingdom. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation in the political, trade, economic and humanitarian spheres.

A detailed exchange of views took place on the situation in the Middle East, particularly in the Gulf region, with both sides underscoring that there is no alternative to political and diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the current crisis, while duly taking into account the interests of all parties.

In light of the deteriorating military and political situation in Yemen, the parties reaffirmed the need for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the creation of conditions for launching a constructive intra-Yemeni dialogue under UN auspices. They also noted the importance of ensuring the safe and unimpeded passage of vessels through international waterways in the region, including the Bab-el-Mandeb and the Strait of Hormuz.

Agreement was reached to continue contacts at various levels.

On September 23, Vladimir Putin will hold a meeting with members of the Government via videoconference. The discussion will focus on the use of the Chestny Znak system to bring the economy out of the shadows. 

Reports will be delivered by Deputy Prime Minister and Chief of the Government Staff Dmitry Grigorenko, Head of the Federal Service for Alcohol and Tobacco Market Control Igor Aleshin, and Head of the Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare Anna Popova.

Other current matters will also be addressed.

Vladimir Putin met with CEO and Chairman of the Management Board of Sberbank German Gref at the Kremlin. The discussion focused on promising projects in the fields of healthcare, education, and the social sphere, as well as on the bank’s current activities.

During the call, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin offered his warm greetings to President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov on his birthday.

The leaders expressed satisfaction with the high level of Russia-Turkmenistan strategic partnership and reaffirmed their mutual intention to develop the relations further across the board.

They spoke about the preparations for the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States that will be held in early October under the chairmanship of the President of Turkmenistan. 

On his part, Serdar Berdimuhamedov congratulated Vladimir Putin on the successful elections to the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
