Das AKP/MHP-Regime in der Türkei setzt den politischen Vernichtungsfeldzug zur Ausschaltung der kurdischen und demokratischen Opposition fort. Nach der Razzia im kurdischen Kunstverein Jîn Art in Izmir und mehreren Ingewahrsamnahmen gab es am Freitag auch andernorts Festnahmen, die mit den üblichen Terrorverdächtigungen begründet wurden. In Istanbul und Mersin wurden zwei kurdische Rechtsanwälte in Gewahrsam genommen, die Mitglied im Verein freiheitlicher Juristen (ÖHD) sind. Wie die Organisation mitteilte, wurden Hebun Hakan Akkaya und Volkan Bilece auf Anordnung der Generalstaatsanwaltschaft in der kurdischen Metropole Amed (tr. Diyarbakır) festgenommen.

24-stündiges Anwaltsverbot in Kraft

Worum es in dem Verfahren konkret geht, sei allerdings unklar. Laut ÖHD-Angaben habe die Staatsanwaltschaft ein 24-stündiges Anwaltsverbot verhängt. Einen Tag lang wird den beiden Juristen somit der Zugang zu einem Rechtsbeistand verwehrt, ihre Verteidigung erhält keine Einsicht in die Akten. Im Fall von Akkaya berichtete der ÖHD zudem von Polizeigewalt während der Festnahme. Ob er verletzt wurde, ist nicht bekannt. Beide Männer wurden nach Amed gebracht.

DEM-Politiker in Osmaniye verhaftet

In Osmaniye im Süden der Türkei wurde der Ko-Vorsitzende des Provinzverbands der DEM-Partei verhaftet. Celal Eker wird „Propaganda für eine Terrororganisation“ vorgeworfen, die er auf einer Hochzeit betrieben haben soll. Konkret laute die Anschuldigung, dass er zu traditionellen Volkstänzen bunte Tücher in den kurdischen Farben Grün, Rot und Gelb wedelte, gab der Anwalt der DEM-Ortsgruppe von Osmaniye bekannt. Zwei Kurden, die am Freitag etwa zeitgleich mit Eker aufgrund selber Vorwürfe in Gewahrsam genommen wurden, kamen gegen juristische Meldeauflagen auf freien Fuß.

Weitere Festnahmen in Mersin

In Mersin wurden neben dem Rechtsanwalt Volkan Bilece noch sechs weitere Personen festgenommen. Laut ÖHD-Informationen handelt es sich um eine Frau und fünf Männer, die aktiv in den Strukturen der Parteien DEM und DBP sein sollen. Auch ihnen werde Terrorpropaganda zur Last gelegt, hieß es. Weitere Angaben lagen zunächst nicht vor.

Polizeiterror in Şirnex

In der kurdischen Provinz Şirnex (Şırnak) vollzog sich am Freitag ebenfalls eine neue Drehung an der Repressionsschraube. Sogenannte Anti-Terror-Einheiten der Militärpolizei stürmten im Landkreis Cizîr (Cizre) die als Widerstandsviertel bekannten Stadtteile Yafes und Nur und durchsuchten mehrere Wohnungen. Die Nachrichtenagentur Mezopotamya (MA) meldete „zahlreiche Festnahmen“, die genaue Zahl blieb zunächst aber unklar. Unter den Festgenommenen befindet sich demnach auch ein junges Ehepaar mit seinem neun Monate alten Säugling.

A list of alleged „wasteful projects“ appeared on two newly registered U.S. government domains for approximately 30 minutes. It may be linked to the administrative coup of Elon Musk and DOGE. We are publishing the full text of the list.

Henrik Schönemann, a historian from Berlin, has discovered content on newly registered U.S. government websites under the domains dei.gov and waste.gov that apparently was not intended for public access. On February 5, the Reuters news agency reported that the White House had registered the two domains.

According to the report, the domains could be used to promote Donald Trump’s agenda and Elon Musk’s „DOGE“ initiative against what they perceive as wasteful government spending and diversity-related projects. The abbreviation DEI stands for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The name of the domain likely refers to an executive order issued by Donald Trump on January 20, aimed at curbing government spending in these areas.

Schönemann’s discovery could support the assumptions made in the Reuters report. The historian found the content of dei.gov and waste.gov using software that scans .gov domains for changes. Shortly after Schönemann located the content, access was restricted, and the material is now password-protected.

A list of „wasteful projects“

A long list of alleged government expenditures, presented on the domain waste.gov as „waste,“ briefly appeared on both sites, which displayed identical content.

We have not been able to independently verify the figures and claims in the list. The information could also be part of a targeted disinformation campaign. The Trump administration could use the list to justify its administrative coup, for instance.

Henrik Schönemann speculates that the U.S. government may use the list as part of a wider campaign. „It’s no longer just individuals, TV stations, and social media,“ he says, „but now the rumblings are also coming from official government websites.“

According to the list, the Biden administration allocated $500 million to „environmental justice“ consultants. Other expenditures reportedly include millions for LGBTQ+ programs, a Malaysian dating app, and even an organization allegedly linked to al-Qaeda. The list also claims a $20 million grant was awarded to produce an episode of „Sesame Street“ in Iraq.

Many questions remain

On February 11, the list, which we publish in full, was only accessible online for approximately 30 minutes.

The domains dei.gov and waste.gov were registered on February 4, 2025. Currently, dei.gov redirects to waste.gov. The websites are hosted by the private company Automattic, which is an approved U.S. government contractor. In a recent job posting, Automattic sought applicants specifically for government contracts. The company’s CEO, Matt Mullenweg, is also the founder and lead developer of the WordPress publishing system.

The list of alleged expenditures closely aligns with narratives that Elon Musk has been promoting on his platform X (formerly Twitter) in recent months. Musk has frequently criticized diversity programs, climate change initiatives, and LGBTQ+ funding.

It remains unclear whether Musk is directly involved in the leaked list or whether it is part of a broader campaign. The White House and Elon Musk have not yet responded to requests for comment.

Vitaly Smirnov, honorary president of the Russian Olympic Committee and honorary member of the International Olympic Committee, turned 90 on February 14.

The President also sent a message of greetings to Vitaly Smirnov. The message reads, in part:

“Your eventful professional journey is a vivid example of selfless service to sport and the Fatherland. During long years of work in the International Olympic Committee and in the top management of the ROC, you have made a huge and truly invaluable contribution to the development of the Olympic movement, strengthening its fundamental principles and values, always firmly and uncompromisingly defending the ideals of fair sporting competition and the legitimate rights and interests of athletes. Niemand von uns möchte Krieg, wir alle sehnen uns nach Frieden – auf persönlicher und auf gesellschaftlicher Ebene. Leo Tolstoi hat die Ängste, die Leiden und die Sehnsüchte, die hier im Spiel sind, in seinem 1869 erschienenen und zu Weltruhm gelangten Roman «Krieg und Frieden» eindrucksvoll geschildert.

Leider hat sich seither vor allem auch global betrachtet nicht viel geändert. Genau genommen schlägt das Pendel sogar immer stärker in Richtung Krieg, so traurig dies klingen mag. Daher haben wir das Jahrbuch 2024 dem Thema «Krieg» gewidmet – wohlgemerkt in dem Bestreben und in der Hoffnung, die Dinge zumindest ein Stück weit zum Besseren wenden zu können.

Der tödlichste Krieg der Welt bleibt dabei der in der Ukraine. Der neue US-Präsident Donald Trump hat dazu am 22. Januar regelrechte Schock-Zahlen präsentiert und meinte, die dortigen Kampfhandlungen, die seit Februar 2022 andauern, hätten bereits 1,7 Millionen Tote gefordert.

Auch wenn dies zu hoch gegriffen sein mag – selbst niedrigere Todeszahlen wären entsetzlich. Erschütternd ist auch, dass viele daran nicht etwas total Erschreckendes sehen. Dazu zählt etwa Thomas Schmid von der Welt. Er kanzelte Sahra Wagenknechts Ansicht, der Ukraine-Krieg werde nicht durch weitere Waffenlieferungen beendet werden können und Ziel müsse eine diplomatische Lösung sein, als «verlogenes Friedensmantra» ab und bezeichnete das Gemetzel in der Ukraine als «gerechten» und damit unabdingbaren Krieg.

Einen erfrischenden Kontrapunkt dazu setzt das Berliner Künstlerkollektiv IAFF, das vergangenes Jahr erneut seine zeitkritischen Werke ausgestellt und dabei das Thema «Make Art not War» gewählt hat. Im ersten Kapitel unseres Jahrbuchs «So viele Kriege gegen die Völker wie nie – und Wege aus der Gewaltspirale» können Sie unseren Beitrag dazu lesen.

Palästina ist derweil laut ACLED «das konfliktreichste Land der Welt», während «der Nahe Osten die am stärksten betroffene Region» darstellt. Indikatoren sind hier: die Tödlichkeit, die Gefahr, die Verbreitung und die Fragmentierung bewaffneter Konflikte.

Vor diesem Hintergrund haben wir in dieses Jahrbuch zwei Texte eingefügt, die das grausame Vorgehen beider Seiten – die Hamas auf der einen und fanatische israelische Politiker und Siedler auf der anderen Seite – beleuchten. Während die Hamas-Terroristen ihre abscheulichen Taten unter Drogeneinfluss mit einem Gefühl der Ruhe und Gleichgültigkeit begangen haben sollen, lassen einen auch Berichte, denen zufolge sogar israelische Jugendliche Palästinenser vertreiben und ermorden, konsterniert zurück.

Kriege finden aber nicht nur auf militärischer Ebene und mithilfe von Handfeuerwaffen und Bomben statt. Es gibt auch einen Krieg gegen die Meinungsfreiheit, einen Krieg gegen den Rechtsstaat und auch einen gegen die Aufklärung darüber, wie man wirklich zu Gesundheit gelangt.

Um eine Lanze zu brechen für die Meinungsfreiheit und um ein Zeichen zu setzen gegen die Verbreitung tatsächlicher Fake News, hat Transition News im Jahr 2024 zwei Awards aus der Taufe gehoben: den «Noble Prize» und den «Fake Newser» Award. Unseren Beitrag dazu bringen wir im Kapitel «Lassen wir uns das Wort und die Suche nach den Fakten nicht verbieten!».

In diesem Abschnitt würdigen wir auch noch mal die überparteiliche, gemeinnützige Organisation Free Speech Union Switzerland. Diese setzt sich mit Verve dafür ein, dass das Recht auf freie Meinungsäußerung geschützt und weiter gefördert wird.

Auch der Rechtsstaat wurde 2024 schwer attackiert. Obwohl sogar der US-Ausschuss des Repräsentantenhauses einen Bericht vorlegte, demzufolge die Wirksamkeit von Masken, Lockdowns und 1,5-Meter-Abstandsregel nicht belegt war (und ist), und so jemand wie Andreas Rosenberger von der Welt nach Veröffentlichung der RKI-Files schrieb, die «Verschwörungstheoretiker [in Sachen Corona] hatten wohl doch recht», wurde der Hamburger Arzt Walter Weber zu 22 Monaten Haft auf Bewährung verurteilt. Grund: Er soll Gefälligkeitsmaskenatteste ausgestellt haben.

Zu den Merkwürdigkeiten, um nicht zu sagen Abstrusitäten unserer Zeit gehört dann auch, dass Menschen wie Weber, die niemandem etwas zuleide getan haben, auf der Anklagebank sitzen und verurteilt werden, während die Verantwortlichen bei einem Pharma- und Impfstoffgiganten wie Pfizer immer noch unbehelligt herumlaufen.

Dabei gibt es zahlreiche Experten, die begründet darlegen, dass Pfizer mit der Einführung seiner Corona-Injektion das «größte Verbrechen gegen die Menschheit» begangen hat. Dieser Vorwurf basiert auf den Erkenntnissen von 3250 Ärzten und Wissenschaftlern, die zwei Jahre lang die 450.000 Seiten der freigeklagten internen Pfizer-Dokumente über die klinischen Studien der Covid-mRNA-Injektion analysiert haben. Die FDA hatte vergeblich gefordert, die Dokumente 75 Jahre unter Verschluss zu halten.

Wie wir uns begegnen und ob wir uns bekriegen oder friedlich miteinander umgehen, hängt letztlich also von verschiedenen Faktoren ab: von unserer Veranlagung, von unserer Erziehung, von unserem Umfeld, in dem wir aufwachsen, und auch vom System, in dem wir leben.

Thematischer Gegenstand dieses Buches ist deshalb auch, wie wir Frieden und Glück erreichen können. Auf zwei neu registrierten Domains der US-Regierung ist für etwa 30 Minuten eine Liste mit angeblichen Verschwendungsprojekten aufgetaucht. Sie könnte mit dem administrativen Putsch rund um Elon Musk und dem DOGE-Projekt zusammenhängen. Wir veröffentlichen die Liste im Volltext.

Der Berliner Geschichtswissenschaftler Henrik Schönemann hat Inhalte auf neuen US-Regierungsseiten unter den Domains dei.gov und waste.gov entdeckt, die offenbar noch nicht an die Öffentlichkeit gelangen sollten. Bereits am 5. Februar hatte die Nachrichtenagentur Reuters über die Registrierung der beiden Domains durch das Weiße Haus berichtet.

Laut dem Bericht könnten die Domains dazu dienen, die Agenda von Donald Trump und Elon Musks „DOGE“ gegen angeblich verschwenderische Staatsausgaben und gegen Diversität voranzutreiben. Die Abkürzung DEI steht für Diversity, Equity, Inclusion. Der Name der entsprechenden Domain bezieht sich vermutlich auf ein Dekret Donald Trumps vom 20. Januar, wonach vermeintlich verschwenderische Ausgaben gestoppt werden sollen.

Die Entdeckung Schönemanns könnte die in dem Reuters-Bericht getätigte Vermutung bestätigen. Der Wissenschaftler entdeckte den Inhalt von dei.gov/waste.gov mit Hilfe einer Software, die US-Regierungswebseiten unter der .gov-Domain auf Veränderungen scannt. Kurz nachdem Schönemann die Inhalte aufgespürt hatte, wurde der Zugriff beschränkt. Die Inhalte sind nun passwortgeschützt.

Eine Liste der „Verschwendung“

Auf den beiden Seiten mit dem gleichen Inhalt tauchte für kurze Zeit eine lange Liste von angeblichen Staatsausgaben auf, die bereits durch den Domainnamen waste.gov als „Verschwendung” dargestellt werden. Waste bedeutet übersetzt so viel wie Müll, Abfall oder auch Verschwendung.

Die in der Liste veröffentlichten Zahlen und Behauptungen haben wir nicht unabhängig überprüfen können. Bei den Angaben könnte es sich auch um gezielte Desinformation handeln. Die Liste könnte die Trump-Regierung etwa dazu nutzen, um ihren administrativen Putsch zu legitimieren.

Henrik Schönemann vermutet, dass die US-Regierung mit der Liste zum Beispiel eine Kampagne starten könnte. „Es sind nicht mehr nur Einzelpersonen, Fernsehsender und Social Media“, so der Wissenschaftler, „sondern jetzt kommt das Geraune auch von offiziellen Regierungswebseiten.“

So habe die Biden-Regierung laut der Liste 500 Millionen US-Dollar für „Umweltgerechtigkeits”-Berater ausgegeben. Weitere Millionenbeträge sollen in LGBTQ+ -Programme, eine malaysische Dating-App oder sogar eine mit al-Qaida verbundene Gruppierung geflossen sein. Auch die Förderung einer „Sesamstraßen”-Produktion im Irak im Wert von 20 Millionen US-Dollar führt die Liste auf.

Viele Fragen offen

Am 11. Februar war die Liste, die wir im Volltext veröffentlichen, für nur etwa 30 Minuten online zu finden.

Die Webseiten dei.gov und waste.gov wurden am 4. Februar 2025 registriert. Derzeit verweist die Domain dei.gov auf waste.gov. Gehosted werden die Seiten bei dem Privatunternehmen Automattic, die als regierungsbeliefernde Firma in den USA zugelassen ist. In einer aktuellen Jobausschreibung sucht Automattic nach Bewerber:innen, die gezielt Regierungsaufträge akquirieren. Geschäftsführer des Unternehmens ist Matt Mullenweg, der auch Initiator und leitender Entwickler des Web-Publishing-Systems WordPress ist.

Die Zusammenstellung der angeblichen Ausgaben folgt auffällig genau jenen Narrativen, die Elon Musk in den vergangenen Monaten unter anderem auf seiner Plattform X (ehemals Twitter) verbreitet hat. Musk hatte sich wiederholt gegen Diversity-Programme, Klimaschutzinitiativen und die Förderung von LGBTQ+-Projekten ausgesprochen.

Ob Musk hinter der geleakten Liste steckt oder ob diese in Verbindung mit einer breitangelegten Kampagne steht, ist derzeit unklar. Auf eine kurzfristige Presseanfrage haben das Weiße Hause und Elon Musk noch nicht reagiert.

Applicants with a lower aptitude in science got preference over applicants who had scored excellent in science. Applicants who had been unemployed for the previous three years got more points than licensed pilots got. In other words, the FAA actively searched for unqualified air traffic controllers. That is insane and they knew it was insane when they did it but they did it anyway. Today we obtained new information, it is an internal email written by an executive at the firm that devised the FAA’s biographical questionnaire. In that email, the executive admits that the test he devised has nothing to do with finding the best air traffic controllers. If you want good air traffic controllers, find people with experience, that was his advice. The FAA ignored this and used the biographical screen anyway. They didn’t care about finding the best air traffic controllers. Compared to diversity, your safety meant nothing to them.
• Fox Business: “FOX Business’ ‘Trouble in the Skies,’ a six month investigation of the FAA’s new hiring practices, uncovered changes that may put the nation’s flying public at risk as well as allegations that the newest air traffic control recruits had access to answers on a key test that helped them gain jobs with the FAA…Also uncovered was an FAA effort to promote diversity that discarded 3000 qualified college graduates with degrees in air traffic control despite their following FAA procedure and obtaining FAA accredited degrees.”
• Daily Signal: “In 2013, President Barack Obama-appointed FAA Administrator Michael Huerta deemed that these hiring standards had not produced a pleasing mix of air traffic controllers when it came to race and sex. He announced plans to ‘transform the [FAA] into a more diverse and inclusive workplace that reflects, understands, and relates to the diverse customers’ it serves…Among the questions asked are: ‘The number of high school sports I participated in was … ‘ ‘How would you describe your ideal job?’ ‘What has been the major cause of your failures?’ ‘More classmates would remember me as humble or dominant?’”

Die letzte Etappe des „Meşa Dirêj“ mit der Forderung „Freiheit für Abdullah Öcalan und eine politische Lösung für die kurdische Frage“ hat nicht stattgefunden. Die Stadt Freiburg hat die Fortsetzung des langen Marsches der kurdischen Jugendbewegung am Freitag untersagt. Das sei die Konsequenz aus den „Vorfällen“ am Donnerstag, hieß es zur Begründung. Das Organisationskomitee der Veranstaltung verurteilte das Verbot als „politische Entscheidung“ und kündigte rechtliche Schritte an. Auf einer vor dem Demokratisch-Kurdischen Gesellschaftszentrum Freiburg abgegebenen Presseerklärung schilderten die Teilnehmenden ihre Sicht zum Ablauf des Geschehens.

Darstellung der Polizei

Am Donnerstagabend war es nach dem Eintreffen von etwa 120 Beteiligten des Meşa Dirêj in Lahr zu Gewalt gekommen. Laut der Polizei hätten mehrere Teilnehmende im Laufe der Demonstration wiederholt gegen das Versammlungsgesetz verstoßen – unter anderem, weil sie sich vermummt oder Auflagen missachtet hätten. Daher habe man im Bereich des Aktienhofs, wo auch der örtliche kurdische Verein angesiedelt ist, Personalien feststellen wollen. Daraufhin seien Demonstrierende gewaltsam gegen die Einsatzkräfte vorgegangen und hätten sie unter anderem mit Flaschen angegriffen. Neun Beamte seien dabei verletzt worden, hieß es von Seiten der Polizei.

 

Provokationen und Schikane

Eine kurdische Aktivistin bezeichnete den von der Polizei präsentierten Hergang der Handlungen als „Szenario“. Sie berichtete von „Störaktionen“ bereits zu Beginn der vierten Etappe des Marsches, die in Offenburg startete. Demnach habe die Polizei bereits dort den Protestmarsch verbieten wollen, weil einzelne Teilnehmende später als zum angemeldeten Zeitpunkt am Startpunkt eintrafen. Deshalb sei der Marsch erst nach einer kurzen Busfahrt ab einer nahegelegenen Gemeinde losgezogen. Doch auch hier sei es schnell zu Provokationen und Schikanierungen gekommen. „Mehrmals wurde der Aufzug angehalten und über mehrere Stunden nicht weiter gelassen, es gab Einkesselungen“, so die Aktivistin. Immer wieder sei zudem nach der Demo-Technik gegriffen worden, man habe das Singen von Liedern und das Skandieren von Parolen unterbinden wollen.

Strategie der Polizei war auf Eskalation ausgelegt

„Dieses Verhalten kann nur als massive Machtdemonstration angesehen werden, die uns Jugendliche einschüchtern sollte“, so die Aktivistin. „Die gesamte Strategie der Polizei war darauf ausgelegt, die Situation zu eskalieren.“ Als der Marsch dann vor dem kurdischen Verein im Lahrer Stadtteil Dinglingen eintraf, wurden die Beteiligten erneut eingekesselt. „Es schien, als sei der Angriff abgesprochen gewesen. Wie auf Kommando gingen sie los“, schilderte die Aktivistin. Auf Videos ist zu sehen, wie einige Polizisten gewaltsam in eine Menge stürmen, um Marsch-Teilnehmende herauszufischen, die sich gegen eine Personenkontrolle aussprechen. Dabei werden einzelne Jugendliche gezielt geschlagen und zu Boden gedrückt. „Vier unserer Demonstrierenden erlitten Platzwunden durch diese Gewalt, eine Teilnehmerin blutete stark am Kopf“, so die Aktivistin. Davon und von der Tatsache, dass der von uns gerufene Krankenwagen nicht durchgelassen wurde, ist in den Polizeimeldungen aber keine Rede.“

Über 60 Identitätsfeststellungen, Verfahren wegen schwerem Landfriedensbruch

Im Anschluss stellte die Polizei bei 64 meist Jugendlichen die Identität fest – „aufgrund des Verdachts unterschiedlicher Straftaten“, wie es hieß. „Hierbei leistete ein Großteil der vorübergehend Festgenommenen erheblichen Widerstand gegen die polizeilichen Maßnahmen“, so die Behörde. Mehrere Ermittlungsverfahren seien eingeleitet worden, unter anderem wegen schwerem Landfriedensbruch. Während der Feststellung der Personalien sammelte sich eine neue, rund 150 Köpfe starke Gruppe vor dem kurdischen Verein, die sich mit den Aktivist:innen im Kessel solidarisierte und Parolen skandierte. Die Gruppe setzte sich gegen 21.30 Uhr in Bewegung und bildete einen neuen Aufzug, der von der Polizei begleitet wurde.

„Berxwedan Jiyan e“

„Die Jugend hat gezeigt, dass Widerstand Leben ist“, ergänzte ein anderer Aktivist, der sich an dem Marsch beteiligte, in Anlehnung an die kurdische Parole „Berxwedan Jiyan e“. Er deutete die Gewalteskalation der Polizei zum Ende der vierten Etappe als Reaktion auf Versuche in den Tagen zuvor, die Jugendlichen zu provozieren, und bezeichnete den Angriff als „unmenschlich“. Dies sei die Antwort der kapitalistischen „Hegemonialmacht“ Deutschland auf eine widerständige Jugend, die sich mit den Ideen Abdullah Öcalans identifizieren. Der Aktivist kündigte an, dass der lange Marsch wie geplant in Straßburg beendet wird. Dort findet am Samstag eine europaweite Großdemonstration anlässlich des 26. Die Türkei setzt ihre Angriffe gegen die Tişrîn-Talsperre in der Autonomieregion Nord- und Ostsyrien fort. Auch am Freitag gab es im Umland der Dammanlage am Euphrat starke Explosionen nach Luftschlägen türkischer Kampfflugzeuge und Artilleriefeuer der Dschihadistenallianz „Syrische Nationalarmee“ (SNA).

Ein Video eines Korrespondenten der Nachrichtenagentur ANHA zeigt, wie graue Rauchschwaden über den Grünflächen am Rande der Talsperre aufsteigen. Ob Menschen durch die Angriffe verletzt wurden, darüber lagen zunächst keine Informationen vor. Auch ist nicht bekannt, ob der Beschuss weitere Schäden an dem Damm verursacht hat.

Unterdessen wird die Friedenswache auf dem Gelände der Tişrîn-Talsperre fortgesetzt. Heute schlossen sich neue Gruppen aus verschiedenen Städten im Kanton Cizîrê dem Protest für ein Ende der kriegerischen Gewalt der Türkei und ihrer Verbündeten gegen Nord- und Ostsyrien an. Die Übergabe wurde feierlich durchgeführt – es wurde getanzt und gesungen.

 

Besatzungsoffensive am Tişrîn-Damm

Seit Anfang Dezember befindet sich der südlich von Kobanê gelegene Tişrîn-Staudamm im Fokus einer türkisch-dschihadistischen Besatzungsoffensive und ist infolge schwerer Kriegsschäden außer Betrieb. Über 400.000 Menschen im Kanton Firat sind von der Strom- und Wasserversorgung abgeschnitten, laut der Demokratischen Selbstverwaltung Nord- und Ostsyriens (DAANES) droht zudem auch ein Dammbruch. Die Türkei will die Anlage einnehmen und die Demokratischen Kräfte Syriens (QSD) für einen weiteren Vormarsch bis zur symbolträchtigen Grenzstadt Kobanê östlich des Euphrat-Flusses drängen. 

Tote und Verletzte aus der Zivilbevölkerung

Neben dem Staudamm selbst wird auch die auf dem Dammgelände stattfindende Friedenswache regelmäßig von Besatzungstruppen angegriffen. Fahrzeugkonvois mit Teilnehmenden gerieten seit Beginn der Aktion vor mehr als fünf Wochen ebenfalls ins Visier der türkischen Aggressoren und ihrer islamistischen Söldner. Dabei kamen nach Angaben des Gesundheitskomitees der DAANES zwei Dutzend Zivilpersonen ums Leben, über 200 weitere wurden verletzt. Unter den Verletzten befinden sich auch der deutsche Physiotherapeut Jakob Rihn sowie die aus Eberstadt bei Heilbronn stammende Klimaaktivistin Lea Bunse.

The Trump administration and NYC Mayor Eric Adams seem to have engaged in an overt quid pro quo – dropping the criminal case against Adams in exchange for the Mayor facilitating the Trump administration’s indiscriminate immigration crackdown. Among the many disturbing elements of the story is the latest reminder that the Trump administration is prioritizing its anti-immigrant obsessions and plans for indiscriminate mass deportations above all.

Among the many high costs of the Trump administration’s obsession include: trampling on the rule of law; pardoning or ignoring actual criminal behavior; subverting many other policy priorities and actual public safety threats – including taking critical resources away from key domestic priorities and drug enforcement, combatting fentanyl and terrorism investigations – in favor of a focus on indiscriminate mass deportations; the negative economic and inflationary impacts of deporting key workers; and a failure to pursue real solutions to a broken immigration system in favor of chaos and cruelty.

“Trump’s obsessive focus on mass deportations comes at a tremendous cost to all of us. His obsession to purge America of immigrants seems to have no limit: cutting a quid pro quo with Mayor Adams, to drop criminal charges in return for immigrant roundups; diverting resources from stopping fentanyl at ports of entry to deport workers; gutting entire immigrant-dependent industries that put food on the table and keep prices low; and intruding into the homes and apartments and going door-to-door to instill fear among people mostly legal, many citizens.

It’s more than a little ironic that their supposed worries about ‘criminality’ and the rule of law fall aside for those willing to endorse and facilitate their indiscriminate mass deportation agenda. The Mayor Adams quid pro quo is just the latest reminder that those truly threatening our democracy are not immigrants, but those willing to subvert the rule of law to enact mass deportations and extreme anti-immigrant policies no matter the cost, all to remake the nation in MAGA’s preferred image.”

Paris, SANA- Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad al-Shaibani stressed that the Paris Conference witnessed a strong will from all participants to support the transitional phase in Syria along with lifting the sanctions imposed on it.

“I participated in the conference at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron and his Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot,” al-Shaibani posted on X, adding that the discussions from all participating countries were fruitful and valuable.

There was a strong will from the participants in Paris conference to support the transitional phase and the current political process, al-Shaibani underscored, “The need to lift the sanctions imposed on Syria was also clearly voiced, and the conference concluded with a joint statement supporting the Syrian people in determining their future”.

He went on to say “The most beautiful thing in my visit to Paris was that I started my day with a meeting of Syrian civil society and ended it with a fruitful discussion with the Syrian community there. Every conversation with the Syrians uplifts hope and bolsters ambition to build Syria that we all proud of”.
